Happy 2026 everyone!🎉 Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? I’m going to try to carve out some time every day doing something I really enjoy. I tend to exhaust myself by doing the things that “need” to get done, with no time left for recreational activities, and it was really beginning to get to me.

That being said, I want to continue to make fun, cute, and clean content for you all, so my sister @starlightmeg99 and I created a website/art and writing blog in which we will share some fun stuff relating to our love of retro Shojo anime art and our original stories and characters! I thought I'd share a watercolor and colored pencil sketch I made a while back of Florian Marino, one of the main characters of La La Mermaid. This sketch was a test to see if I really liked watercolors and colored pencil enough to illustrate my entire story with them, which I did. Even though this sketch is a little rough, I like the airy quality of it that, I think, reminds me of Florian's whimsical and almost otherworldly spirit.

Florian may be a talented water ballet performer, but he is also a great mentor and friend to younger artists like Crystal. I think that’s one of the things I like the most about him. I always wished I had an art mentor like him who was skilled, patient, and a good teacher...

I'm really sorry to have to give you all this update, but I'm having some technical issues right now self-publishing La La Mermaid, and Amazon won't let me release it until I fix these issues. I'm working really hard to iron this out, though, which means that La La Mermaid's release date will be delayed. 😭

I really want to make up for this delay, though, so I am going to include extra prizes in my current giveaway: three holographic stickers featuring Crystal and the magical items from the story, the Seashimmer Pendant and the Merlala Pact. I will also include a cute key chain. Also, once La La Mermaid releases on Amazon, I will offer a discounted price for both the eBook and physical book versions for a limited time.

Don't worry, though, I'll still announce the winner of the giveaway on October 25th. I'll mail all the prizes to the winner right away except for the book, which I will ship out to the winner as soon as I have it ready.

How about some behind-the-scenes photos of the location that inspired the setting of Sea Star Village, the small seaside village in La La Mermaid?

In this beautiful area I live, we have mild weather, a harbor, and a neighborhood with a canal and boats! People love to surf at the beach, too, and I've enjoyed sitting on the sand, watching the surfers and ocean life , and the ocean itself, as I dreamed up ideas for my story. Crystal would love to paint the seascapes here!

I've always loved water lilies (it is also my birth flower!), and one time I even spotted a fountain filled with them! It was quite dreamy! There's even a character in my story with a water lily motif incorporated in his character design!

But, like most fictional settings, it is also very idealized. In some ways, I picture Sea Star Village as looking more like the last photo here (the only photo that's not of the inspired location). It is very quaint, and cottagecore like in aesthetic with beautiful flowers and greenery everywhere!

These young ladies are not featured in my upcoming story, but they are characters of mine named Chiffon, Meringue, and Petit (from top to bottom). They are a group of operatic singers who act like little princesses. Chiffon is calm and elegant, Meringue has a dreamy voice and is a little aloof, and Petit is the youngest and a bit of a crybaby. Their signature flowers are a camellia, a gardenia, and a peony.

Here is the second half of Crystal’s concept art—her magical mermaid transformation! I wanted to give Crystal a girly mermaid design with kawaii, shoujo touches! I took inspiration from Barbie movies I grew up watching (think Barbie Mermaidia) and mermaid Barbie dolls, as well an anime schoolgirl look. Pink and mint green are the color schemes here, and these pretty, pastel colors seem to suit Crystal’s personality. Her tiara has a design that looks like ocean waves!
